So the decision was taken to sell the property and to use the proceeds to transfer the school to Canberra. Since that time, the College has grown to be one of the largest schools in the ACT. But not only is it important it is also one of the maximum highly regarded and sought after. With a history of over 120 years, and a local history of nearly 50 years, the College continues to maintain appropriate things from the past, while ever impatient to embrace the fresh and contemporary. The College enjoys mighty support from its parent body and this urge has enabled it to keep abreast of educational developments. For the first century or so of its existence, maximum of the teachers were Brothers. These days, the teaching and concern of the students is carried out by dedicated lay people who identify with the educational charisma of Marcellin Champagnat and wish to see it preserved and enhanced. Why is a culture of Service imperative at Maoist? Service forms an integral piece of the Maoist ethos, and invites our students to listen to the stories of others and fosters relationships. Their combination of strength and gentleness has been the key to all that has been achieved through service activities and outreach in the preceding few years. Maoist offers every student the opportunity to serve the community through a variety of Integrated Service Learning activities which vary from year to year, and are designed to amplify participation at an age good level. These activities occur during the timetabled day with the intention of creating an close opportunity for all students to engage in service. A number of Service activities operate outer of school time and see students volunteering their time, energy and passion to serve those in the wider Canberra community. A number of these activities are listed below. This program acknowledges the efforts of our students in the area of service at the College and beyond. In the alike way that the College recognizes students’ academic, cultural and sporting achievements, this program is a specific way of recognizing students’ time and contribution to service on an ongoing basis. There has been a meaningful amplify in the number of boys, especially our younger students, engaging in service activities within the College and in the wider community in recent years. Our community coordinates a number of fund raising events each year for Sol (Maoist Solidarity) to promote development projects in a number of Maoist initiatives in the Asia Pacific Region. They are student led and supported by teachers as facilitators, mentors and guides.
