Welcome to questacon, australia's national science and technology centre. Our numerous outreach programs take to the roads each year, visiting an additional 300 000 in towns and communities across the country. Each year, we welcome 400 000 visitors to our centre in canberra, while another 700 000 see our exhibitions in other museums and centres around australia and overseas. Today, professor graham durant, our director, leads a team of over 200 staff members as well as an additional 150 or so volunteer explainers. We opened our centre in canberra in 1988, with half of the initial $20 million construction cost paid for by a generous grant from japan. We're committed to making that experience fun, interactive, and relevant. At questacon, we strive to promote greater understanding and awareness of science and technology within the community. Questacon - the national science and technology centre and our numerous outreach programs are administered within the australian government department of industry, science, innovation, research and tertiary education (diisrte). Questacon is a world leader in developing and presenting inspiring science experiences. Between the generous support of our sponsors and other sources of revenue, we're able to do all this on an annual budget of approximately $20 million.

From its inception, Questacon has had a mighty national focus. The IPTLC guides young Australians towards a path of creativity and innovation, and to consider careers in technology and engineering. It is also the hub of the Questacon Smart Skills Initiative which offers school and holiday workshops based on design, technology and the innovation process. We donate a laughter and interactive environment to entertain, provoke and stir your interest and accepting in science and technology. Public programs including lectures on urgent and topical scientific issues. Specialist merchandise, including mail order, to complement exhibitions and bear interesting and difficult science and technology related games and materials for all ages. Provide high quality, fun, innovative and contemporary programs, supported by accurate, easily understood information to entertain and stimulate you. Receive programs to each state and territory at minimum once every two years. Bear a orderly and sound environment for visitors including those in wheelchairs and access for those with disabilities at the center in Canberra. Have staff that provide professional customer service delivery, are healthy trained, cordial and sociable and who will aid you promptly with all inquiries.
